The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic

Known as Sri Dalada Maligawa, this is the heart of Sri Lankan culture and the island’s most holy Buddhist site.

A Royal Sanctuary

This temple is located inside the old royal palace of Kandy. It holds the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. Historically, people believed that whoever owned the relic had the right to rule the country. Consequently, the temple is still a powerful symbol of Sri Lanka today. Timing Your Visit

Finally, the best time to visit is during the evening prayers at 6:30 PM. You can hear the drums and see the temple lit by oil lamps. As a result of this timing, you will see the temple at its most beautiful moment.
